Peggy's Cove... january edition... co-piloting for: Christiane Fox

When I was smaller I used to hate driving to Peggy's Cove. It seemed like such a long just to see a lighthouse with a green light, a whole bunch of scrubby trees (growth stunted by the wind and poor soil conditions), and big rocks.
Isn't it funny how at one point in one's life, a person can go somewhere or do something and find it so boring, and not appreciate it at all, but then all of a sudden, that view or opinion can suddenly change!?! I LOVE PEGGYS COVE.

Chris and I went on a mini road-trip out to see Peggy's today and once again I just was completely struck by what our province holds in it's little coves and funny little communities.
As we drove around the very bumpy and bendy roads on the way(some so much so that every time that I drive them I feel a little bit sick) I couldn't help but wonder at how utterly different the ocean is from place to place. In Nova Scotia we can find coves that are surrounded by tall evergreen trees and granite rocks, and pebbly beaches, in other places we see red mud and blowing beach grass, and in yet other places we find white sands and palm trees.

It was a fabulous day to go out (come on, what one ISN'T??). The water was sparkly, the sky blue, and the wind ablowin', but it was FREAKIN COLD. I got repremanded for only winter things with holes in them.... knitted mittens, a hat with holes in it... Beauty is pain folks is what I say.

We were hoping that we'd see some seals (Chris only has ever seen them at camp!!), but the only things obviously floating in the water there today were bouys and a few friendly ducks, and some seaweed.

Serious question: do ducks not have nerves in their legs?? How do they not feel the coldness of the water!!?

<--- I'm standing on a rock that is both dark and wet, for those of you that know the sign warning the dumb tourists not to do exactly that.

After a yummy lunch of seafood chowder and rolls, Chris and I headed back to the city. As we drove along Chris was looking back over her shoulder to see the view behind her when all of a sudden along beside the car flys a pheasant. She still was looking not at the road a good 5 seconds later when the bird decides it wants to cross the road DIRECTLY IN FRONT OF THE VAN. My poor heart was so sad for the potential death of it that I did a little scream at Chris so that she wouldn't kill it-- all I was thinking was "what if we hit it and dont' kill it?? I'm not going to run over it, and I certainly am not going to break it's neck or leave it there to die!", I didn't think at all that Chris might think that we were about to plow head first into an oncoming car or cyclist or something.

*I'm laughing as I write this*.. Chris was scared and she screamed too and after a few seconds of hysterical/ confused yelling in the car she finally asked what was wrong, as it was obvious that there was no on-coming vehicle after all. Finally I explained and we laughed for another 5 km down the road. I wish we had a video because seriously it was so funny.

oh crap...sorry about that first one...apparently I CAN leave comments now! :P

Um...I just wanted to let the general public that reads your blog know that the "little scream" you let out, was infact a blood curtalling scream that would be enough to send anyone into heart palpatations and possibly convulsions :D

It was truely funny, once I realized that our lives were no longer in danger ;)
